Lahore,With the help of HomeNet Pakistan
(HNP)
and the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP)
, Sana completed a
threemonth certified dressmaking course
from Vocational Training Institute (VTI)

Shalimar, a decision that changed the course
of her life forever. Her journey is one of
strength, transformation, and hope one that
led to not only personal empowerment but
also a new beginning through marriage and
business ownership.

Facing Life’s Challenges Alone

Before the training, Sana lived a life full of
hardships and uncertainty. As an unmarried
woman approaching her forties, she had faced years of social pressure and
emotional struggles. She lived with her family and supported them in whatever way
she could, but without a stable source of income, she often felt dependent and
limited. Like many women in similar circumstances, she longed for independence
and a meaningful change in her life

An Interest Waiting to be Nurtured

Sana had always shown interest in stitching and sewing, often repairing or making
simple clothes at home. However, she had never received any formal training. The
idea of turning her interest into a professional skill seemed like a distant dream
until an unexpected opportunity came knocking at her door.

A Life-Changing Opportunity Through HNP and UNDP

During a community meeting organized by HomeNet Pakistan, Sana learned about
the free certified dressmaking course being offered at VTI Shalimar in partnership
with UNDP. The course was specially designed for women who wanted to learn
incomegenerating skills. Sana saw it as a golden opportunity to learn, grow, and
change the direction of her life.

With her family’s encouragement, she enrolled in the threemonth course. It was the
beginning of a new chapter one filled with learning, confidence, and hope.

Learning Skills and Building Confidence

At VTI Shalimar, Sana received professional training in cutting, stitching, pattern
making, and garment finishing. The environment was supportive, and the trainers
helped her build both technical and soft skills. For Sana, it wasn’t just about learning
to sew it was about discovering her potential, finding her voice, and regaining
confidence in herself

“This course made me realize that I can stand on my own two feet. It
gave me courage, skills, and a new identity,” said Sana proudly.

A Beautiful Twist: Marriage and New Beginnings

Shortly after completing her training, something unexpected and beautiful happened
Sana got married. Her new journey as a wife began with a strong foundation of self
reliance. Unlike many women who feel helpless in a new home, Sana entered her
marriage with skills, confidence, and a plan for the future. Her husband recognized
and appreciated her determination and supported her decision to start a business

Setting Up a Home-Based Stitching Business

With the skills she had learned, Sana set up a small stitching business from her home.
Using a single sewing machine, she began making clothes for women in her
neighborhood. Her designs were simple, clean, and wellstitched quickly attracting
regular clients. Word of mouth helped her grow, and soon she started receiving
custom orders for formal and casual wear.

She began contributing to household expenses, and her earnings gave her a sense of
pride and independence she had never experienced before.

Empowered and Inspired to Help Others

Sana’s story began with personal growth but has now become a source of inspiration
for other women in Begum Pura. She often shares her journey with younger girls and
neighbors, encouraging them to gain skills and believe in themselves.

“If I can turn my life around at 39, anyone can,” she says. “We just
need an opportunity and belief in ourselves.”

A Heartfelt Thank You to HNP and UNDP

Sana is deeply grateful to HomeNet Pakistan and UNDP for giving her a second
chance at life. The course they offered didn’t just teach her stitching it gave her
strength, dignity, and the courage to dream again. Today, she is not just a
dressmaker she is a businesswoman, a wife, and a role model.

A Story of Hope and Transformation

Sana Saleem’s journey from a struggling, unmarried woman to a confident
entrepreneur and newlywed is a powerful reminder that age is never a barrier to
success. With support, training, and determination, women like Sana can transform
their lives. Her story stands as an example of what’s possible when organizations like
