Success Story: Success Story of Munaza Safdar.
A Determined Woman from Chungi Amar
Sidhu
Munaza Safdar, a resident of Chandraye
Road in Chungi Amar Sidhu, Lahore, is a
married woman with three children two
daughters and a son. Her husband works
as an auto–rickshaw driver, and their
financial situation has always been
challenging. Despite limited resources,
Munaza is a sharp and ambitious woman
who always dreamed of supporting her
husband and providing a better future for her children. She completed
her matriculation and has always believed that women, too, can play a
vital role in improving the financial conditions of their families
Connecting with Home-Based Workers’ Network
Munaza’s journey took a positive turn when she learned about Home
Net Pakistan (HNP) through a personal reference. This connection
proved to be a life–changing opportunity for her. After becoming
involved with HNP, Munaza was introduced to a wide range of
knowledge related to home–based work, entrepreneurship, and
women’s rights. She learned about the importance of economic
independence, legal awareness, and the value of skills that can be
transformed into sustainable livelihoods.
A New Skill through a Life-Changing Opportunity
With the support of HNP and the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP), Munaza enrolled in a three–month certified course
in dress making at a Vocational Training Institute (VTI), free of cost. This
course became a turning point in her life. Not only did she gain technical
skills in stitching and garment design, but it also ignited a sense of
confidence and motivation in her. Munaza realized that she could now
work from home and earn an income to help her husband and
contribute to her children’s education and well being.
From Training to Entrepreneurship
own small stitching business from home. She began stitching clothes for
the women in her neighborhood. Word spread quickly about her neat
more detailed piping suits for PKR 800. Within a short period, she built a
loyal customer base and started receiving regular orders. This new
venture allowed her to earn between PKR 15,000 to 20,000 per month, a
significant contribution to the household income.
Impact on Her Family and Community
Munaza’s efforts have not only brought financial relief to her family but
have also earned her respect and admiration in her community. Her
husband is proud of her achievements and now sees her as a true
partner in managing the family. Her children look up to her as a role
model, and the financial support she provides ensures that they are
attending school regularly and have access to basic needs. Moreover,
Munaza is inspiring other women in her locality to learn skills and
become self–reliant
A Journey of Empowerment
opportunities, support systems, and training can transform the life of a
woman. From being a housewife with limited means to becoming a
confident and skilled entrepreneur, Munaza has proven that with
dedication and the right support, anything is possible. Her journey
reflects the power of women’s economic empowerment and the
important role that organizations like HNP and UNDP play in uplifting
communities. Munaza now dreams of expanding her work further,
training other women, and ensuring that her children grow up with the
education and opportunities she never had.
