Iqra Faisal – From Struggles to Self-Reliance

A Mother’s Journey from Hardship to Hope
Iqra Faisal, a resilient woman from
Chandraye Road, Chungi Amar Siddu, Lahore,
is a true example of how determination and
timely support can transform lives. Iqra is a
mother of three daughters and lives with her
husband, who works a modest private job.
With limited income and growing household
needs, it was difficult for the family to make
ends meet.

Despite having only completed matriculation,
Iqra was determined to support her husband and improve her family’s
financial situation. She started a small food business from home, hoping
it would provide some relief. However, due to a lack of business
knowledge and experience, the venture did not succeed and eventually
had to be closed.

The Turning Point – Joining HomeNet Pakistan

In 2022, Iqra heard about HomeNet Pakistan (HNP) from a neighbor.
Curious and hopeful, she decided to join the organization. This decision
marked a turning point in her life. Through HomeNet Pakistan, Iqra
began participating in various awareness and skillbuilding sessions.

These sessions covered essential topics like customer dealing, time
management, budgeting, profit calculation, and business marketing. For
the first time, Iqra realized where she had gone wrong in her earlier
business attempt. She learned how to manage finances, deal with clients
effectively, and promote her services in a competitive market.

Rebuilding Confidence and Skills

After gaining this new knowledge, Iqra was eager to restart her journey
as an entrepreneurbut this time with the right skills and mindset.
Seeing her commitment, HomeNet Pakistan, with support from UNDP,
arranged a threemonth certified beautician course for her at VTI
Shalimar.

This training gave Iqra a completely new skill set. She not only learned
the technical aspects of beauty services but also how to run a salon
professionally. The course boosted her confidence and gave her the
courage to step into a new field.

A New Beginning – Opening Her Own Salon

After completing her beautician training, Iqra took a bold step and
opened a small salon in her own home. Alongside running the salon, she
also offers homebased beauty services in nearby areas. Her friendly
attitude, professionalism, and quality work have helped her quickly gain
loyal clients.

Today, with the blessings of Allah and her own hard work, Iqra is running
her household smoothly. She feels empowered, independent, and proud
to be contributing to her family’s income. Her daughters look up to her
as a strong role model.

An Inspiring Path Forward

Iqra Faisal’s story is a powerful reminder of how access to knowledge,
skill development, and encouragement can change a woman’s life. With
the support of HomeNet Pakistan and UNDP, she turned her struggles
into strength and built a better future for herself and her family.

Iqra is now not just a beautician she is a businesswoman, a mother, and
a symbol of hope for other women in her community.
