FBLT Success Stories NAZLI NADEEM

NIMRA TOY CENTRE NAZLI NADEEM

When Nazli Nadeem married Nadeem Hussain, he owned a small toy business, producing toys for children. However, shortly after their marriage, Nadeem shifted to driving a rickshaw, as it provided a more lucrative income. Meanwhile, Nazlibegan is creating jewellery at home for other businesses. She received weekly bulk orders, which she completed and delivered for payment. Despite their hard work, providing for their five children and ensuring their education was a constant challenge. Nazli also worked as a polio health worker to supplement their income. It was only recently that Nazli realized the potential of her husband’s unused toy making machine and decided to revive the business.

VENTURING INTO TOY MAKING

Nazli’s foray into the world of toy-making began with simple creations like stuffed monkeys, bears, and dogs. Over time, her skills evolved, and she began crafting exclusive dolls. She not only stitched the dolls but also created clothing, jewellery, and added embellishments to enhance their appeal. With dedicated practice, Nazli honed her skills and became an expert in her craft.

Despite her talent, Nazli lacked the business acumen needed to sustain her work.A turning point came when friend introduced her to HomeNet Pakistan (HNP), an organisation dedicated to helping women become micro-entrepreneurs. Nazli was amazed by the support offered by HNP, which provided valuable training at no cost. When the Financial Inclusion of Home-based Workers’ Enterprises through Business Booster Loan and Trainings (FBLT) was launched, Nazli eagerly enrolled.

LAUNCH OF NIMRA TOY CENTRE

The FBLT program aims to empower home-based workers by providing them with the tools to grow their businesses, generate sustainable income, and improve their livelihoods. Nazli’s participation in the program, particularly the Foundation Level Training, equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of running a successful business. Encouraged by this newfound knowledge, she officially launched ‘Nimra Toy Centre’ , marking the beginning of a remarkable entrepreneurial journey.

PARTNERING FOR SUCCESS

Despite initially attempting to sell her dolls online, Nazli faced challenges with low sales. Drawing on her Foundation Level Training, she recognised the importance of adapting her sales strategy and explore partnerships as a means to secure bulk orders.

Nazli collaborated with several toy shops in key markets, supplying her products in bulk once a week. This strategic move not only increased her sales but also allowed her to profit from the higher volume of sales through these established channels.

IMPORTANT TRAINING LESSONS

Through Foundation Level Training, Nazli learned the importance of setting rightful prices for her products. This not only ensures that she receives fair compensation for her efforts but also helps her maintain a sustainable business model in the long run.Furthermore, she understands the importance of adaptability and flexibility in response to market fluctuations. She realizes that as market conditions change, she must be willing to adjust her prices accordingly to remain competitive and sustain her business growth.

Another key lesson Nazli learned was the importance of effective communication and building long-term relationships with partners and clients. By understanding their needs and preferences, she can tailor her products and services to better meet their expectations, fostering loyalty and trust.

THE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

With the increasing demand for her dolls, Nazli quickly realized that a single sewing machine was insufficient to meet her production needs. Recognizing this challenge, she turned to the FBLT project for support. Through HBL Microfinance Bank, Nazli secured a loan of PKR 70,000, which she used to purchase a juki machine, materials for doll-making, and to hire local women from her community to assist in stitching dolls. To manage larger orders, which sometimes required up to 80 dolls per week, Nazli allocated tasks among her team of workers and paid them per piece.

  A WHOLE NEW BEGINNING

As a result of these strategic investments, Nazli and her husband have seen a significant increase in their monthly income, which now ranges between PKR 60,000-70,000. After covering their expenses, which amount to PKR 40,000-45,000 per month, they are able to save around PKR 20,000 or more. Nazli’s individual profit from her business amounts to PKR 20,000 per month after deducting all expenses. Looking ahead, she has set her sights on securing a bright future for her three daughters, expressing her determination to save enough for their weddings.

In the future, she aspires to expand her business by acquiring additional machines or employing more women as assistants. They would work from home and help her fulfil large orders promptly. This initiative would not only improve her family’s life but also empower other women in the community to achieve financial independence, contributing to the economic advancement and prosperity of all.
