Case Studies Of Komal

Komal is a 20-year-old unmarried young woman living in Baldia Town, Karachi. She has completed her Intermediate education and is currently working as a home-based worker to support her family. Her father, M.Amin, works as a labourer and earns around PKR 28,000 per month. With this limited income, it is difficult for the family to meet all their household needs. Komal has always dreamed of building a better life for herself and her family. However, growing up in a lowincome household, she has often felt stressed and anxious about her future, career, and aspirations. Despite her ambition and desire to achieve more, financial constraints and lack of opportunities made her feel stuck and discouraged. With the support of UNDP and HomeNet Pakistan (HNP), Komal got a valuable opportunity to enroll in a vocational training program where she learned basic stitching and fabric designing. The training fees and transport expenses were fully sponsored, and she received her travel allowance through a cash app, which not only eased her travel worries but also helped her improve her money management skills and become more familiar with digital tools. During the training, Komal also learned about marketing strategies, small business operations, and online selling platforms, which helped her understand how to grow her work into a viable income source. She became more confident in presenting her work professionally and started applying new techniques in her stitching. Her income now varies depending on the season and workload, but during peak times like weddings and Eid, she has experienced up to a 200% increase in her stitching income. She now attracts more customers and is known in her community for her neat stitching and creative fabric designs. Komal is determined to continue learning and growing. She wants to stay connected with HomeNet Pakistan and hopes to enroll in a computer course, such as Microsoft Office, to enhance her skills further. Her goal is to become financially independent, support her family, and eventually break free from the cycle of poverty. She believes that with hard work and continued support, she can achieve her dreams and build a brighter future.
