Case Studies Of Anamika Ilyas

Anamika is a 21-year-old unmarried Christian woman from Karachi. She completed her matriculation and works from home as a stitching worker. Her father, Ilyas Sharif, is currently unemployed, and due to this, the family has been facing serious financial challenges. Being the eldest, Anamika felt the pressure to support her household. Her family often struggled to manage basic needs like groceries, utility bills, and transport expenses. She had a strong desire to contribute more, but her lack of advanced skills and resources held her back. With the support of UNDP and HomeNet Pakistan (HNP), Anamika got the chance to enroll in a vocational training program where she learned basic stitching and fabric designing. The training fee and travel expenses were completely covered, and she received a travel allowance through a cash app, which helped her learn to manage money better and use digital tools more confidently. Before taking the course, Anamika earned around PKR 10,000 per month. She only had a few customers and mostly worked within her own neighborhood. After completing the training, she gained valuable skills in stitching and fabric design and also learned how to market her products, manage a small business, and sell her items online. With this new knowledge, she became a certified professional and noticed a clear improvement in her work. Her product quality improved, and more customers began to approach her. She also started selling online, which expanded her reach and boosted her income to between PKR 15,000 to 20,000 per month. Anamika now feels proud of her achievements and is motivated to keep learning. She wants to stay connected with HomeNet Pakistan and hopes to enroll in a computer course, such as Microsoft Office, to continue building her skills. Her goal is to become financially stable, support her family, and build a brighter and more secure future for herself.
