Nazia Zulfiqar, a 40 year old dedicated home-based worker from the Hazara community, supported her family by stitching curtains on order. Despite her skills, she dreamed of expanding her expertise to include stitching ladies’ suits and baby outfits to secure a more stable income. However, cultural restrictions and limited learning opportunities made it difficult for her to pursue these aspirations. Karachi Stitching curtains With support from HomeNet Pakistan and UNDP, Nazia convinced her family to allow her to enroll in stitching classes at STEVTA Khadda Market. She learned basic and advanced tailoring techniques through this training, progressing from a novice to confidently stitching complete garments. The supportive environment, guidance from trainers, and camaraderie with fellow trainees played a significant role in her journey. Nazia’s determination and newfound skills have transformed her life. She overcame cultural barriers and now plans to open her own stitching business and provide affordable training to young girls in her community.
