Mary Rose, a 24-year-old unmarried Christian woman from Block B, Sector 9, Baldia, Karachi, is a home-based worker who wants to contribute to her family’s expenses. She lives with her father, Hameed Shehzad, a medical practitioner earning Rs. 30,000 monthly, and is supported by her family. While she doesn’t face significant challenges, she is eager to help her father and gain financial independence. With the help of UNDP and HomeNet Pakistan (HNP), Mary Rose enrolled in a vocational training institute to learn basic stitching and fabric designing. Her enrollment fees and transportation costs were fully covered, and she received her transport allowance through the EasyPaisa app, helping her manage finances and improve her financial literacy. The training also provided her with business knowledge, capacity-building skills, and insights into marketing through online platforms to help her promote her work in the future. Mary Rose is enthusiastic about continuing her education and staying connected with HomeNet Pakistan. She plans to enroll in a computer skills course, such as Microsoft Office, with support from UNDP or HNP, to broaden her career opportunities. With these training programs, she is working toward personal growth and financial independence, supported by HNP and UNDP.
