Cynthia Ilyas, a 26-year-old unmarried Christian woman from Tennery Road, Hazara Colony, Lyari, Karachi, is a home-based worker who helps support her family. She lives with her father, Ilyas Shareef, who is currently unemployed. Cynthia earns between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 monthly through her stitching work. With UNDP and HomeNet Pakistan (HNP) support, Cynthia enrolled in a vocational training institute to learn basic stitching and fabric designing. Her enrollment fees and transportation costs were fully covered, and she received her transport allowance through the EasyPaisa app, which improved her financial management skills. The training also gave her business knowledge, capacity building, and marketing skills, helping her understand how to promote her work online. Cynthia plans to stay connected with HomeNet Pakistan and continue enhancing her skills. She hopes to enroll in a computer skills course, such as Microsoft Office, with support from UNDP or HNP, to explore new career opportunities. These training programs are helping Cynthia achieve personal growth and financial independence with the continued backing of HNP and UNDP.
